Description

Spent the Fall of 2006 playing for the number #1 ranked Arkansas Aeros of the ABA. In 2007 Thompson continued for a short stint with former NBA champion Michael Cooper''''s Albuquerque Thunderbirds (NBADL) . In college was a two-year starter for the Missouri State Bears, serving as the team’s floor leader, perimeter defensive stopper and a sharpshooter from both three-point range and the fifteen foot area. A co-captain for the Bears in 2005-06, Thompson quarterbacked the Bears to the first postseason appearance in 6 years during his first year and the first 20 win season in 7 years. Deke Thompson missed one game as a senior with a minor injury, surrendered his spot in the starting lineup on Senior Night in 2005 so Trevyor Fisher could start in the backcourt, and otherwise started every Missouri State game for two seasons, putting up remarkably similar statistics for his two seasons with the Bears. 2005-06: Thompson picked up where he left off as a junior and was a key ingredient on a very balanced ball club which rang up 22 wins and had the 21st best RPI in Division I for the season. Thompson scored in double figures in 15 of 30 games with a season high of 21 in the early conference game at Drake. He had 19 in the NIT first round against Stanford, 18 at home vs. Indiana State and chipped in 16 vs. Georgia Southern and Oral Roberts. He handed out five or more assists in six games with a top effort of seven vs. Georgia Southern. Thompson finished the season second on the team in field goals, scoring, three-point baskets and assists by one and he had easily the best assist/turnover ratio on the ball club with. 2004-05: Thompson was a key member of the attack as one of seven Bears averaging between seven and 11 points a game, finishing third on the team with his 8.9 average. He was second in minutes played, field goals and three-point field goals. Thompson led MSU in scoring six times, with four of those outings in the last six games of the campaign. He had a 27-point explosion at Evansville in the regular season finale when his seven treys fired the Bears to a key win. Thompson came right back with a game-high 16 in the Bears'''' win over UNI in the quarterfinals of the State Farm MVC tournament, and led Missouri State scoring two nights later as the Bears lost to Creighton for the tournament championship. Thompson stayed hot with a game-high 15 points in the season finale loss to Davidson. The 27-point game at Evansville was his best point total as he had double figures in 13 of 32 games. Thompson fired home 4-of-6 distance shots against Texas-Pan American in the third game of the season. He stayed consistent enough from behind the arc that his late hot streak pushed him briefly into the league lead in three-point accuracy and he finished fourth in that department as Nate Funk and Jimmy Motz of Creighton got hot in the MVC tourney. Thompson never hesitated to make clutch shots during his career. Helped the bears win seven games by making clutch shots with less than a minute to play.
